Description: Photographic prints of images relating to the arrest of Rua Kenana Hepetipa and others, at the village of Maungapohatu, Urewera, in April 1916. Photographs taken by Arthur Ninnis Breckon, probably for the Auckland Weekly News (many of these images were published in the Auckland Weekly News on 13 April 1916). The dates these prints were made is unknown. Most images show groups of policemen, and some include those arrested, women and children, houses and other buildings of the settlement (including the court house/meeting house 'Hiona'), and the landscape around Maungapohatu. Also includes a newspaper clipping titled 'Rua's battle with the police' taken from the New Zealand Herald, 22 June 1957. Thomas Cotter was a policeman at Putaruru fronm 1924 to 1956, and was friends with constable Arthur Skinner who was at Maungapohatu on the day of Rua Kenana's arrest.
