The main canoe, an outriger, is followed by two double-hulled canoes without sails, full of oarsmen, and one boat is carrying wrapped carved figures. Includes loose documents, maps and letters, including one from Bishop Selwyn and from Maori acquaintances including Tamihana Te Rauparaha and Mete Kingi 1847-1852. Describes members of Wellington society 1848-1850. Lists Maori tribes and population figures. Describes Tasmania on voyage home. Volume 2 describes return voyage to England and describes Tahiti, Hawaii, San Francisco, Acapulco and Panama.
