Lake Waikaremoana (N.Z.) - Power utliisation

Waikaremoana Power Scheme (N.Z.)

Also known as the Waikaremoana Power Scheme and the Waikaremoana Hydroelectric Scheme, comprises three hydroelectric power stations (Tuai, Kaitawa, and Piripaua) using water taken from Lake Waikaremoana, in the northern Hawke's Bay in the North Island of New Zealand. The scheme was an early government scheme, the second after Managahao in Horowhenua. It is the only example in New Zealand of a hydroelectric power scheme taking advantage of a natural landslide dam, which formed Lake Waikaremoana by damming the Waikaretaheke River.
