Settlements are named as Maraekowhai, Te Hinau, Tawata where the teacher's house and school are marked, also Te Herata where a landing is marked. Pa sites are named as Otamakaihou, Papamu, Whaririki, Te Rauwhare, Tapapanui also Maharanui Kainga. Some tracks are marked and Waipahi Peak, Ngatikuwaru Reach, Tupau Cave are named. Names include Erni and Chappell. Accompanying two paged letter from the teacher at Tawata School to A. D. Mead, written in 1953, with this map at MapColl-f832.41cdc/[1830-1977]/Acc.40431a and b. Gives corrected and added names to a map traced by A. D. Mead.
