Sir Colin was appointed in 1945 to the British Colonial Service in Fiji. He was transferred to the Solomon Islands serving in a variety of positions until 1953 when he was named Special Lands Commissioner to the Western Pacific High Commission. Description: Folder comprises a typed transcript of Trooper James H Parker's First World War diary while serving in Palestine from January 1918 to after the Armistice and the disbandment of the squadron for the return to New Zealand. Gives accounts of the fighting, raids by Taube monoplanes, sports and social activity. There is a brief mention of the Surafend affair on 10 Dec 1918 where a New Zealand soldier was killed by a Bedouin, and over 40 Bedouin were killed in retaliation. Includes photocopies of labelled photographs, list of abbreviations and terms used by Parker, transcription from the back cover of the diary, giving addresses, memoranda of horses used, requisitions and letters written, copies from the army newspaper 'Kia Ora Coo-ee' of articles and clippings.
