Description: Photograph album of Maori pa and battle sites in the North Island, presumed to have been created by Leslie George Kelly in circa 1928-1930. Comprises photographs taken 1928-1930, probably by Kelly, and five hand drawn maps and one other drawing, presumably drawn by Kelly at a similar time. The photographs are captioned and dated, and connections made between the photographs and the maps. The captions include some historical and contextual information. - Includes photographs of Otakanini Pa, and Oparuparu Pa in the Kaipara District. The images of the Oparuparu include rock carvings that Kelly has also drawn. Other pa include Mokoia Pa (Panmure), Te Horo Pa (Helensville), Te Makiri Pa (Awaroa River), Matakitaki Pa, Taura Kohia (Pirongia), Paterangi Pa, Orakau Pa, Pukeokoiwiriki Pa (aka Paritaiuru, in Papakura), a pa site in Kawhia (not named in the album), and Te Arawi Pa (Kawhia) and sites of Te Kohia Pa (Waitara) and Mahoetahi Pa (Taranaki). - Also includes images of the site of "Maori whare burned by troops 1864, Rangiaowhia" and photographs of the Anglican and Catholic Churches at Rangiaowhia.
