Coal Creek Flat

On the west bank of the Clutha River at the southern end of Lake Roxburgh. An opencast mine here, where coal is obtained by hydraulic sluicing.

Description: Panoramic view looking towards two single-storeyed houses made of stone or possibly concrete blocks with a road in front, steep stony hill behind. The house on the left has a lawn in front, two women working in the garden on the left of the house, and there are flower beds, a creeper and a large flowering bush by the house. Row of poplars behind this house. Five men are standing by a gate to the right of the house in front of macrocarpa trees between the two houses. A man is standing by a car parked outside the house on the right, and another man is seated on a pallet of labelled fruit boxes drawn by a draught horse. There is wrought iron decoration along the top of the verandah on the house on the right. The owner of the property, William J.
