Description: A base map of the area south of El Alamein which includes Lake Maghra has pencilled annotations of positions and a route possibly taken by the 28 Maori Battalion on 7th. and 8th. July 1942. Coverage of this topographic map is of the area beginning 25 kms. south of El Alamein at the trig point Alam Nayil, south to the El Taqa Plateau and to the wadi called Hatiyet Labraq Sabakha and across to Lake Maghra. No sealed roads cross this area but numerous motor tracks are marked, as are a few camel tracks, wadis and a pipeline referred to in a key. Includes contours. Topographic features are described in English. The 'Purple' and 'Red' grids are referred to, and instructions are given to work out grid references. Includes map index to adjoining sheets and an incomplete reliability diagram.
