Description: A three-storied stone house, with gatehouses built into its fence, viewed through trees. The house, named Overton, was at Strathaven, Lanarkshire, Scotland, and was the artist's birthplace Overtoun Terrace in Hataitai, Wellington, is named after the artist's home in Scotland. The artist was in England and Scotland between the late 1840s and 1857, when he returned to New Zealand. Other Titles - Overtoun The note 'J. C. C.'s [i.e. James Coutts Crawford's] home in Scotland' is written in a hand other than the artist's, probably by the donor, Brigadier Crawford.
