Description: Two tanks in the Massa Lombarda area, Italy, during World War II. Includes a New Zealand 17 pounder Sherman tank "Amgot", of C Squadron, which had scored a direct hit hit on a German Panther tank. Behind the tank is the charred remains of a hay-stack set alight by the flash-back from the tank. Photograph taken circa December 1944, by W K Lloyd. Other - Note on back of print reads: MASSA LOMBARDA "Amgot" (Cpl Gus Nolan) 17 pdr tank of C Sqn in the position from which it scored a direct hit on a panther. The panther brewed and "Amgot" almost suffered the same fate for the back-flash from the gun set light to the haystack - see charred remains at rear of tank - frightened the hell out of the crew, and no doubt gave the Huns the impression that they too had scored a hit."
