Description: Two sheets of the map of the central route railway, North Island main trunk railway, Turangarere section, each covering up to one mile distance along the Hautapu River. Milage is running from Turangarere towards Taihape. Both sheets show tracks, sheet 2 shows Roapoama's house opposite 70 chains and the track from Moawhango and Marton, while sheet 3 shows a U-turn bend in the track and good sites for platelayer's cottages. The lower diagram in each map is a cross section of the same distance, measuring heights, formation levels, distances and gradients. Maps signed by R W Holmes, 26/11/[18]89. 'Copy of PWD 16466'. Description: Double-page spread image shows at far left Herekiekie's waata (storehouse), and other buildings nearby. Two horses are in the centre foreground, and a few scattered figures. At the right is the waterfall at Turangerere on the Hautapu River, with the word "Tertiaries" written beside them. A fenced square enclosure is visible on the bank further up stream. Crawford writes: "At 2.20 pm, we reached the pretty village of Turangerere, the principal residence of the late chief Herekiekie, situated on the right bank of the Hautapu. Here there is a celebrated waata or storehouse, very large and highly ornamented with carvings. Description: Transparencies of railway bridges in New Zealand, taken by Geoffrey Thornton or Jocelyn Thornton. Each slide mount is annotated with the subject (bridge or viaduct name, and/or river/stream name, and/or road name) and location (town, city, or area). Dates and photographer name are often but not always annotated. Title transcribed from item. Arrangement: Transparencies were arranged in a 6-row, 50 slides per row, metal case, alphabetically for the first 5 rows. Quantity: 24 colour original transparency/ies. Physical Description: Colour transparencies in plastic and cardboard slide mounts. Processing information: Slides have been removed from container and put into archival pockets, following the original order, from left to right and top to bottom.
