Description: Shows a view of Wellington Harbour with Thorndon Quay or Esplanade, the year before the reclamation started. The square object along the pier at the end of the esplanade may be an early version of the Thorndon swimming baths, although the later turretted version was built out into the harbour from reclaimed land. The foreground shows lawns surrounded with trees, probably the garden at Tiakiwai, the home of the Stowe family.
