"Beached as, bro'.." NZ Proposal. International Whaling Comm. Talks Morocco. 28 June 2010
Date: 2010
From: Hubbard, James, 1949-: Digital caricatures and cartoons
Reference: DCDL-0014654
Description: The cartoon shows a huge whale beached in the sands of Morocco which is where the 'International Whaling Commission' talks have recently been held. An Arab on a camel passes by and comments 'Beached as, Bro...'A deal that would have overturned a 24-year ban on commercial whaling has failed at the International Whale Commission meeting in Morocco. New Zealand's commissioner Sir Geoffrey Palmer chaired the support group. He backed the plan but was unable to convince others in the anti-whaling camp to sign up. He said that regrettably 'there's an absence of political will to compromise'. The deal on offer would have allowed japan to resume limited commercial whaling if it agreed to cut its scientific quota in the southern ocean. Australia has been the most vocal opponent. Latin America too were not convinced. Quantity: 1 digital cartoon(s).
