File relating to school traffic training, mid-1950s-1960s

Description: File comprising emailed memories of National Library staff members and others about the school traffic training programme set up in 1957, using the sets of pedal cars and other aids. The research was done as background for a short newspaper story by Colquhoun accompanying a photograph of a traffic training day at Karori School. The story and picture were published in the Wellingtonian community newspaper as part of their 'From the Turnbull Library series', and, later, in the book 'Wellingtonians: from the Turnbull collections' (Steele Roberts, 2011). The traffic training scheme was set up in 1957 with sponsorship by Shell Oil. There were two sets, one for each island, transported around schools by a big truck. In addition to the pedal cars there were bikes, picket fences, and houses (which were converted from the packing cases it all came in). Quantity: 1 Electronic document(s).
