Description: The railway bridge over the Tokomairiro River with the railway continuing up the Woolshed Valley beyond and a road running parallel to it ca 1880s. Photographer unidentified. Inscriptions: Mount verso - beneath image - Tokomairiro and Lawrence Railway, Otago, New Zealand - the bridge in the foreground is over the South Tokomairiro River. Its total length, 180 feet, comprising three spans of 60 feet, on masonry piers and abutments. The roadway, having a clear width of 12 feet, is carried on the 60 feet spans between the combined trusses, the tension rods being of wrought-iron, the lower chord of jarrah, and the upper chord and other members of New Zealand timber. It was designed by John Carruthers Esq. Engineer-in-Chief New Zealand and built by Messrs. Campbell & Co in 1873. Quantity: 1 b&w original negative(s). Physical Description: Film copy negative
