Description: A view of the rocky outcrop on the north side of Whangaroa Harbour, above Waihi Bay, known as the 'Twelve Apostles'. Figures in a canoe with a sail are seen in the harbour. Hutton says of drawings (3), (5), (6) and (8): "These four are views of different parts of Whangaroa harbour – No. 6 is a most singular piece of rock work – it has very much the appearance of an old castle, more particularly so when seen from a distance (see No. 8). The tree at the right hand corner of No. 8 is a fairish drawing of a Pohutukawa tree." Description: A view looking to the north side of the harbour, with the rock outcrops known as the 'Twelve Apostles' in view in the background. A pohutukawa stands in the foreground. 'Mr Shepperd' is likely to be the missionary James Shepherd (1796-1882), who established at Matangirau in Touwai Bay. Hutton says of drawings (3), (5), (6) and (8): "These four are views of different parts of Whangaroa harbour – No. 6 is a most singular piece of rock work – it has very much the appearance of an old castle, more particularly so when seen from a distance (see No. 8).
