Description: The reminiscences are entitled `Ricky's story - the memoirs of Amy Rickman', as taken down by Beryl Smedley in September 1991. The collection also includes newspaper cuttings, maps, telegrams, invitations, drawings of Rickman in 1927 and other papers concerning her nursing career. Source of title - supplied title Amy Rickman was born in England on 24 December 1892. She came to New Zealand in 1919 as a private nurse to the Campbell family. In 1921 she trained as a nurse in Auckland and later completed her midwifery training in Christchurch. In 1926 she went back to England and undertook some private nursing jobs both there and in France. On her return to New Zealand in 1928, she continued nursing and in 1933 was posted to Houhora, in the far north where she was a district nurse for six years. In 1940 she went to Rarotonga for two years and then to Niue for two years where she became Matron in charge of the Hospital, a position she was to return to in 1946 after two years in New Zealand. In 1949 she returned to England where, after several private nursing jobs there and in America, she retired. Quantity: 1 folder(s).
