Description: View from the front of William Barnard Rhodes' house The Grange in Wadestown Road. The house is two-storeyed with several gables and surrounded by a large garden with a row of young conifers, formal steps featuring statues at the top, and a fountain in front of the house. Another building with a prominent chimney, possibly a groundsman's cottage, stands partially obscured by trees to the left of the picture. In the left foreground is a seated woman who appears to be reading or drawing, with a man standing alongside her. Two tall conifers, possibly Norfolk Pines, frame the view on the far left Inscriptions: Recto - beneath image - Grange, Highland Park, Wellington New Zealand. The residence of W B Rhodes Esq J P; Recto - beneath image - [Coat of arms, bearing the motto Robur Meum Deus (God is my strength). The shield has an armour helmet, a lion's paw, and acorns, and above the shield a forearm and fist also decorated with an acorn, and holding fern sprigs.
