Lake Mahinerangi is an artificial lake formed by the damming of Waipori River to store water for Dunedin City Council's Waipori Hydroelectric Power Stations. Formed in the early 1900s, and named after Dorothy Kathleen Mahinerangi Barnett, daughter of the Mayor of Dunedin in 1911.
