Description: Contains inward correspondence to Harold Earle Riddiford, 1952 to 1953. Correspondents include Noel Ewart Odell, Harry J Stevenson, Ronald Macmillan Algie, Harry Ayres, Keki Bunshah, and Cecil Hugh Tyndall-Biscoe. Includes inward and outward correspondence with New Zealand Customs and Rolex regarding a Rolex Oyster Perpetual watch worn on the1951 British Mount Everest reconnaissance expedition. Also correspondence with representatives of the Royal Geographical Society (E E T Day, Mumford) and The Himalayan Club (J Henderson, A R Leyden). There is also a memorandum from the Wellington Section of the New Zealand Alpine Club regarding a lecture by Edmund Percival Hillary. Photography is the subject of a number of letters. One letter from The Himalayan Club relates to the payment of Pasang Dawa Lama. Title transcribed from item. Arrangement: Material arrived at the Library in box "2" in a clear plastic sleeve with a note in pencil reading "1952 Letters ([54] Pasang " and "Done". A further note in blue ink describes the letters as "Correspondence to Earle Riddiford| H.J. Stevenson, Harry Ayres, Hugh T.B. Algie etc." A second peice of coloured note paper, with a printed illustration of three women and the text "Ladies wot Lunch" has "Pasang| Odell| Letters" written in black ink. Quantity: 1 folder(s). Subjects include mountaineering, finances, postage and customs, watches, and photography. Letters are mostly written from New Zealand, but some correspondents are in Nepal, India, Switzerland, Australia, and England. Correspondents include Ian Ogilvie Gibbs, Cliff Holdsworth, Harry J Stevenson, Cecil Hugh Tyndale-Biscoe, Marcel Kurz, Harry Ayres, W M Taylor, Richard Jackson, Noel Ewert Odell, Rolex, Archie (Scott, Aitken & Cox Stock and Share Brokers), Alan Forrest Reid, Cliff Holdsworth, Jim Thornton, Henry Genese, Peter Aufschnaiter, Frank Cook (Canberra Alpine Club), R W Lloyd (Himalayan Committee), and New Zealand Alpine Journal, Canterbury Mountaineering Club, and New Zealand Alpine Club. There are typescript copies of outward correspondence to John Farquhar Findlay regarding Antarctic Expedition. Also includes telegrams congratulating Riddiford and his wife Rosemary Riddiford on the occasion of their wedding in 1954. Also telegrams relating to other events, including mountaineering and travel. One telegram is from Riddiford's mother, Helen Josephine Tytherleigh Nicholl. Title taken from item. Arrangement: Material arrived at the Library in box "3" in a clear plastic sleeve with a note in pencil reading "Correspondence 1954-56" which is annoted in ink to read "To Earle R, 1953, Personal & Mountaineering".
