Source of title - Transcribed Following a previous unsuccessful attempt in 1845, missionaries under the auspices of the Oceania Marist Province re-entered the Solomon Islands in 1898 and set up Apostolic Vicariates in the North and South Solomons. A Vicariate of the Western Solomons was established in 1960. After 1967 the Vicariates became known as Dioceses.
