Description: Comprises eight interviews with Nelson women by Veronica Coffey, conducted in 2003. Interviewees describe their early life, families, education, careers, health, children, and connection to Nelson region's viticulture, and hop, apple and tobacco growing industries. Some describe working as owners, growers, harvesters and pickers, dairy farmers, nurses, teachers, clerical workers and in tourism Subjects covered include tobacco harvesting and grading, the role of tobacco companies Rothmans and WD & HO Wills in Nelson, division between men's and women's jobs, seasonal and local workers, wages, effect of mechanisation, decline in tobacco industry, trials in kiwifruit growing, establishment of vineyards and winemaking, tourism in Nelson and the West Coast Interviewees are Alma Joyce Barrow, Lois Yvonne Chisnall, Elizabeth (Beth) Ellen Eggers, Betty Yvonne Fry, Anne Elizabeth McEwan, Agnes Mary Seifried, Kaye Maureen Stevens and Jill Elizabeth Williams A ninth interview with Nola Leov was completed but not deposited with the collection.
