Reid, Frank Felix, 1892-1966

Born in Wellington, New Zealand on 4 Nov 1892. Son of Leonard Greenwell Reid and Elizabeth (née Hall). He was the one-mile university champion in 1912 when attending Victoria College, Wellington. Served in First World War (Serial No. 37220). Officer in the Royal Field Artillery, then transferred to New Zealand Field Artillery. Married on 5 Feb 1924 to Pearl Constantia Vavasour at Ugbrooke, Marlborough. Awarded CBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List of June 1961. Died on 29 Sep 1966 at St George's Hospital, Christchurch. Description: Letters by Frank Felix Reid to his family from the period of his service during the First World War. Addressed mostly to his family, but some more specifically to either his mother or father. Includes small number of incoming letters from relatives of military personnel who served under his command. Collection includes one telegram, received at Eketahuna, and one newspaper. Source of title - Supplied by Library Frank Felix Reid (Army Registration No. WWI 37220), served in the New Zealand Expeditionary Force as Second Lieutenant with the Royal Field Artillery from 3 June to 20 September 1915 in England, and from 21 September 1915 to 10 March 1916 in France. He served with the New Zealand Field Artillery from 16 March to 31 May 1916 in England and 31 May 1916 to September 1918 in France.
