Description: Irene Girven was born in New Lynn in 1927. Lois Bolitho assisted Irene Girven in describing events and experiences in her life. Talks of representing Upper Hutt Methodist Church and the Uniting Parish in community, district and national events. Relates her experience playing the organ. Describes giving communion, singing and playing hymns on the piano after a severe stroke. Talks of the first woman minister and women trustees in the church, and involvement with the various church properties. Recalls her overseas trips, travelling by ship, seeing the King and Queen in 1936, meeting grandparents and doing family tree research. Mentions her Stoke Club membership, driving a modified car, hydrorobics and the facilities in her house. Describes activities from photographs of Wesley Seniors, Wesley Revue and her late husband with their Model A car. Talks of the church's participation in Christmas parades, the Oscar programme. Mentions having diphtheria as a child, decribes being in isolation and the care she received. Talks of men in the parish who have died. Interview concludes with two pieces played on the piano with Lois Bolitho. Elaine Bolitho summarises Irene Girven's life, mainly after her stroke.
