Description: Comprises an autographed group photograph of members of the Crossing Party, one of the two teams of the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition of 1957-1958, taken by an unidentified photographer in Antarctica, and a photograph of a hut and tent in Antarctica, taken circa 1980s by an unidentified photographer. Signatures on the Crossing Party photograph include V E Fuchs, David Pratt, Hal Lister, Ralph Lenton, Ken Blaiklock, George Lowe, Hannes La Grange, Jon Stephenson, Geoff Pratt, Allan Rogers, David Stratton, and Roy Homard. Description: First day envelope shows on the front an illustration of two men (presumably Edmund Hillary and Vivian Fuchs) shaking hands in a snowy landscape. They stand beside a sled dog team, and a caterpillar-wheeled vehicle. A single engine plane flies low overhead. Four Ross Dependency stamps are at top right, and the envelope is rubber-stamped by Pole Station, and a stamp titled "Antarctic meeting Ross Dep[endency] 20 Jan 1958. There are also signatures of 16 participants in the enterprise, including E P Hillary, Roy Howard, George Lowe, Jon Stephenson, Vivian Fuchs, Hal Lister, Ralph Lenton, J.D.G. Pratt, Hannes la Grange, Ken Blaiklock, Allan F. Rogers, Derek Wright, P Mulgrew, M R Ellis, David [Streeton?] and David [Small?] The verso is stamped with the logos of Operation Deep Freeze (the United States Navy Task Force 43), and the International Geophysical Year Amundsen-Scott IGY South Pole Station. The verso also has the signatures of three men associated with the Trans Antarctic Flight: Flt Lt RAF G Haslop, Flt Sgt RAF Peter D Weston, and Ellis Williams.
