Description: A head-and-shoulders profile portrait of Sophia Hinerangi, best known as 'Guide Sophia', the principal tourist guide of the Pink and White Terraces at Lake Rotomahana. Although her face appears aged, her hair is still very dark; she would likely have been in her early-mid 50s. She wears a long piece of pounamu on a ribbon in her left ear, and a red shirt with a blue scarf, tied in a knot The name 'Tai awhio' in brackets refers to Sophia's second husband, Hori Taiawhio, whom she married in 1870 Other Titles - Maori.
