Description: The Minister of Justice, Judith Collins, requests another 'independent opinion - Justice Binnie's had an accident with the crusher'. Beside is a metal press, with only pair of feet protuding. Judith Collins' hand is resting on the controls of the press. In 2011 the Ministry of Justice contracted William Binnie, a puisne justice of the Canadian Supreme Court to investigate the controversial claim for compensation made by David Bain for wrongful imprisonment. When Binnie, after a year's investigation, found in favour of Bain, Collins rejected his findings and announced that the government would get a second opinion. 'Crusher' refers to Collins' nickname, gained when she advocated confiscating and crushing cars of boy racers. Quantity: 1 digital cartoon(s).

Description: Commentary from the artist: 'The latest evidence [gunpowder on Robin Bain's thumb] is surely enough reason to pardon and compensate David Bain. Or will Judith Collins thumb her nose at that, too, in the same way she thumbed her nose at Canadian Judge Binnie at the time of his independent Report.' The Canadian judge Binnie reads a letter of apology from Judith Collins and remarks 'This is so moving...(gulp)...not at all what I'd expect from a bilious tax lawyer from Auckland'. In a continuation of the claim by David Bain's supporters for compensation for possible wrongful imprisonment, on 27 June 2013, the New Zealand Police dismissed unclear marks on photographs of Robin Bain's thumb which some of the David Bain supporters claimed to have been gunpowder marks. Description: Shows Minister of Justice, Judith Collins, sitting at her desk with the 'Bain Report' in her waste basket. She says: "I have a woman's intuition on these things and this report is far from adequate!... I mean - not a word about those bizarre pullovers..." Refers to the Binnie report, by retired Canadian Judge Ian Binnie. Binnie's report investigated the David Bain compensation claim, and is being peer-review by Robert Fisher QC. On 12 December Collins said that Binnie got his report wrong over crucial fingerprint evidence and over what she called a misunderstanding of New Zealand law. Collins stated that Binnie went "well beyond" the terms of reference laid down by former Justice Minister Simon Power. Also refers to David Bain's now infamous colourful knitted jumpers or pullovers during his original court appearance charged with murder in 1994. See 'Bain Jersey 'his own design', Stuff, 4 May 2009.
