Description: This collection is made up of two groups of photographs. One group records a trip to Mount Ruapehu, probably in the late 1950s, with views of the mountain, the Tararua Tramping Club's Lodge, distant groups lined up in ski schools as well as close ups of the new skiers in action. Photographs John, Sara, and Anna Pascoe with friends Tom and Margaret at the Crater Lake. A sequence shows how a rescue team treats and transports an injured skier down the mountain. The second, Mount Egmont (Mount Taranaki) group dates from 1954, and is similar with group photographs of children and adults on skies, Sara outside an igloo, people walking up a slope roped together, and a large group outside a mountain hut. There are views of the mountain and surrounding countryside under snow, and details of snowy mountain slopes. Quantity: 35 b&w original photographic print(s).

Description: The place is Mount Ruapehu and the opening photograph is a view of the mountain. Most of the album is a record of the building of a ski lodge by the Snowline Ski Club sometime in the 1950s. This is explicitly stated in a newspaper caption under a picture of the completed lodge. At some time the club may have considered calling itself the Skyline Ski Club as there are two group photographs at the beginning of the album that have a man holding a sign on which is written "Skyline S C site." The images show men working on the foundations of the lodge, the finished building, and a gathering at what is proably the opening of the lodge. Description: Photographs of a winter holiday at Tongariro National Park, 15-29 August, 1925. Includes distant views of Mounts Ruapehu, Tongariro and Ngauruhoe, as well as views on the way to mountain huts at Whakapapa. Images of people including a group from the Ruapehu Ski Club, and the group with Adkin, some of whom are named. Also named is Guide Cowling, the caretaker at Whakapapa (p 4, 24). Skiing, snowball fights and tobogganing. Other images show day trips to Wairere Falls and the Tama Lakes; snow falling, and snow-laden trees.
