Fryatt, Charles (Capt), 1872-1916

British mariner who was executed by the Germans for attempting to ram a U-boat in 1915. British captain of merchant ship SS 'Wrexam'. In March 1915 he attempted to run down a German U-boat that intercepted his ship. The following year he was captured (June 1916), tried and executed by the Germans. In July 1919 his body was returned to England where he was given a state funeral in St Pauls Cathedral.
