In 1852 a block of 580 acres of land was given by the Crown to support a school in Otaki run by the Church Missionary Society. Over the years boarding hostels were also provided by the authorities. Today this land and other assets, is administered by The Otaki and Porirua Trusts Board, and profits are used to fund post primary scholarships for children under the age of 20 from the three Iwi of the area - Te Artiawa, Ngati Raukawa, and Ngati Toa. This present administration was set up with the passing of a private Act of Parliament, The Otaki and Porirua Trusts Act 1943.
