Franklin, Douglas Rex, 1935-2016

Country guitarist and singer, originally from Taranaki. In 1953 joined Horace and Tui Hartley as the Ruahine Ramblers. Married Noeline Franklin in 1956 after meeting at a talent quest in Palmerston North in 1955 and have performed as a duo ever since. Recorded two discs with TANZA in the late 1950s and then recorded with Viking Records from 1959 and more recently Philips. As well as touring with various country music artists, and singing on radio, Rex has been a radio disc-jockey in Palmerston North, Nelson and Taranaki. Lived in Nelson until moving to New Plymouth in the mid-1980s.
