Description: Features John Landy the Australian runner who on 21 June 1954, at an international meet at Turku, Finland, Landy became the second man after Roger Bannister to achieve a sub-4 minute mile, recording a world record time of 3:57.9, ratified by the IAAF as 3:58.0 owing to the rounding rules then in effect. That record held for more than three years. In the lower right corner the cartoonist (self-portrait of Colvin) furiously tries to get the cartoon finished in 3 minutes 58 seconds with a man behind him urging him on and checking his watch. The paper on which the cartoon is drawn has a large chunk cut out of the left side but this does not touch the drawing itself. Quantity: 1 original cartoon(s). Physical Description: Pencil on paper, 455 x 375 mm
