Shows battle sites and documents scenes of the war, such as 'Koheroa Block - battle of 17th July', 'Shepherds Bush' - ('escorts attacked' changed to annotation 'marytrs', 'Bald Hills - Colonial Troops under Lieut Lusk repulse 200 Maoris', 'Potauas Pa' corrected to 'Tuakau's Pa. Description: An arrangement of text on both sides of a small flier. It begins by praising the New Zealanders for being needed "when the going becomes rough", as at Greece, Crete, El Alamein, Tobruk and Ain el Gazala. Then it recalls Cassino where "such an alarming number of brave New Zealanders threw away their lives". It warns that now, as the New Zealand troops approach Faenza, "every yard towards that town must be paid for with the life blood of hundreds of New Zealanders ... This cursed Italian soil must be fertilized with the precious blood of New Zealand Youth ... For New Zealand it is a pathetic case of all give and no take!". The New Zealand Army 2nd Division succeeded in capturing Faenza on 14 December. Quantity: 1 b&w photo-mechanical print(s). Description: The cartoon shows Foreign Affairs Minister Murray McCully reading a newspaper report that says 'NZ soldier killed in Bamiyan Province, Afghanistan'. A paper dart made of newsprint flies through one of McCully's ears and out of the other; it shows text reading 'McCully confident on Afghan stability goal especially in Bamiyan'. Refers to the recent statement by Murray McCully that 'Bamiyan Province in Afghanistan where New Zealand troops have been working since 2003 will be ready to stand on its own before the 2014 deadline set by the troubled country's President, Hamid Karzai.' On 4th August the Defence Force announced that a New Zealand soldier, Lieutenant Timothy O'Donnell' was killed and two others injured in an attack on a routine patrol in Afghanistan.
