Description: The collection contains predominantly Māori content and includes interviews, radio programmes and Māori language tutorials. The multi-episode broadcasts include Te Mauri o te Whanganui River, Tu Tangata Reo, Māori Images on Film, Te reo Māori and Te Huki. Includes interviews with leading Māori historians, musicians, academics, judges, activists, authors and politicians. Many of the programmes and interviews were broadcast on Iwi Radio between 1988-1992 and on Te Upoko o Te Ika 1986-88. The recordings are associated with Piripi Whaanga's working career at National Radio and as a journalist, interviewer and programme producer for Māori radio station Te Upoko O Te Ika from 1987. Edited programmes were produced from some of the recordings for Radio New Zealand programmes such as Checkpoint and Insight. Others were commissioned by New Zealand On Air for broadcast on individual iwi radio stations from 1990 on. The recordings were also used as a teaching resource for a Māori radio course Te Whakapakari run in 1994 in Wellington by Piripi Whaanga's family company Tu Tangata. Recordings from students on the course are also included. Title supplied by Library. Piripi Whaanga was closely involved in the establishment of Māori radio. He was co-founder of Mana Māori Media, he was a radio manager for Iwi Radio, he helped set up Te Upoko o Te Ika and he established Tu Tangata. He also worked for National Radio on Checkpoint and Insight programmes. Description: Collection of mainly colour photographs, taken from 1997 to 2004, of performances and other events, instruments (and items relating to instruments) and places in New Zealand, all of which have involved Richard Nunns. A few are duplicates of photographs in other boxes of this collection. Events include: Kauraka Kauraka playing a nose flute: a trio, comprising Richard Nunns, Mike Cooper and Elio Martuscheillo, playing in Rome in 2002; the opening of Te Papa, 1998; an image from `Taku Wana', an opera by Helen Fisher and Wi Kuki Kaa showing Mere Boynton singing the opening aria; the launch of `He Waiata Onamata - songs from the past' in 1998. Instruments shown are old and newly made (by Brian Flintoff, Clem Mellish and Huata Holmes). Includes woven items associated with taonga puoro.
