Shows the crew of the ship Nimrod posing for a photograph during a garden party held at Te Hau o Te Atua (Breath of Heaven), the home of Shackleton's New Zealand agent Joseph Kinsey, on Clifton Hills. The party was given as a farewell to the members of Shackleton's expedition and ship's officers, on November 26th 1908. Title supplied by Library. Description: Album of photographs taken by unidentified photographers during the British Antarctic Expedition, 1907 to 1909. The album contains 50 pages of which 21 pages are empty. This album consists mainly of portraits of the men (listed above except for Abrahams, given only with surname and not found in published material) Other topics are the Great Ice Barrier; Adelie and emperor penguins; Ross seals, Weddell seals and crab eater seals. There are two photographs of a gramophone used by the men, one in the hut at Cape Royds, and one outside playing music to penguins (p 21). Quantity: 1 album(s) Album(s). Description: Album of photographs relating to Shackleton's British Antarctic Expedition between 1907 and 1909. All the photographs have full inscriptions, with people and places identified. (Names listed above). Two photographs of icebergs were taken at a different time (undated) by Captain Greenstreet when sailing the SS Rimutaka in the southern oceans (p 41). Photographs on pages 33-39 show the "at home" garden party at Te Hau o Te Atua (Breath of Heaven), the home of Shackleton's New Zealand agent Joseph Kinsey, on Clifton Hills. The party was given as a farewell to the members of Shackleton's expedition and ship's officers, on November 26th 1908. Photographs show both the group who ventured to Shackleton's "Farthest south" position, and also the group who went north to the magnetic pole. Towards the end of the album are a few stereoscopic photographs, some of which show the Nimrod while being towed by the Koonya. Quantity: 1 album(s) Album(s).
