"Stop the Tour 1976" protest in Wellington

Description: All frames taken during a night procession by people protesting against the 1976 rugby tour to South Africa in which the All Blacks finally toured with Māori and Samoan players as "honorary whites." Several people are wearing masks representing New Zealand Prime Minister Robert Muldoon, South African Prime Minister John Vorster, and All Blacks Tane Norton and Grant Batty. Placards include "All White's alright, eh Rob?" "Oppose apartheid. Stop the tour"; "Sure Vorster. It's N.Z. the way you want it"; It's OK Bryan, in your case it's different"; "Remember Sharpeville"; "Apartheid is murder"; and, a large banner carried by two people "Polynesians against racism in NZ." Description: All frames show protesters with placards against the 1976 rugby tour to South Africa in which the All Blacks finally toured with dark-skinned players as "honorary whites." A group are wearing face masks representing a South African rugby official, wearing a rosette labelled "South Africa" (frames 8 & 11) and holding a cigar (frame 11); several All Blacks, including Bryan Williams (Samoan), with placards behind him reading "It's OK Bryan, in your case it's different", and "I'd be jailed if I dated a blonde in South Africa"; Tane Norton (Maori), with placards behind him reading "I can't play rugby with Tane in S.A." and "Dont' worry Tane, you're an honorary white"; and Grant Batty (pākehā) with placards behind reading "It's illegal for me to drink with you in South Africa, Grant", and "It's alright Grant, You're All Black, you're special". Placards and banners include a "Values Party" banner; a group wearing masked caricatures of a South African official, the New Zealand Prime Minister Rob Muldoon and South African Prime Minister John Vorster, and All Blacks Grant Batty and Tane Norton with placards reading "All White's alright, eh Rob?"; "Sure Vorster, It's N.Z. the way you want it"; "Don't worry Tane, you're an Honorary White" and "I can't play rugby with Tane in South Africa".
