Description: Card from an Auckland restaurant shows an illustration by David Kennedy, of three circular tables in a restaurant. Under each table sit men in suits, purporting to be table supports but in fact all drinking alcohol surreptitiously. In the background a policeman has opened the door and is looking in to check for illicit drinking. The text reads: "It has been said that our liquor laws are out of date, but at least they give rise to one of the most charming New Zealand customs ... under-the-table drinking". Description: Menu from an Auckland restaurant, offering a wide choice. Specialities included various steaks, beef Strognoff, Vienna Schnitzel, Hungarian goulash, roast turkey. The foreword argues the case for allowing alcohol to be served with restaurant food. The back page gives an introduction to the cover artist, David Kennedy. The front cover designed by David Kennedy shows an armour-clad knight as a restaurant patron, being served with a tin-opener.
