The publication includes many annotations by James Cowan, including a personal message in the front saying 'To Eileen Cowan, aroha nui, J.C'. Loose material that was laid in to the volume comprises two clippings, a hand-drawn map of Te Pōrere Pā, and a photographic print, taken by W A Taylor of 'Te Heuheu Tukino & family. Description: Published by Whitcombe & Tombs, 1893. Also loose material including photographs, clippings, and a typescript (annotated) of Ngāi Tahu whakapapa. The volume is annotated by Cowan, and includes notes relating to Ngāi Tahu place names from the Canterbury region. The photographs are in postcard format, and include images of Akaroa and Wainui, by Jessie Buckland. Also a real-photo postcard sent to Cowan by W. A. Taylor, which includes a personal message saying 'To Mr James Cowan, trusting he will have a Happy Christmas and Prosperous New Year, with a pen ever ready to promote an understanding of the Maori People'. The image on the postcard is of signatures of the Tuahiwi Runanga, 1870. According to Cowan's annotations on the typescript of whakapapa, the information had been supplied by Tame Kirini [Thomas Green], of Tuahiwi, in 1907. Quantity: 1 folder(s).
