Of Petone, Wellington. First employed by Messrs Wardell Bros and Company; Chairman of the Strangers' Tea Committee for ten years. Enlisted with the 7th Reinforcements, Wellington Infantry Battalion. Embarked 9 October 1915 for Suez, Egypt. First rank was Lance Corporal rising to Sergeant. Acted as Company Sergeant-Major during the campaign in Le Quesnoy September to December 1918. Serial No: 10/3011. Sustained facial wounds in action.
