Description: Comprises various humourous sketches and verses by a number of friends of Beatrice McCrie Alington, nee Hair. Many of the entries are distinctly Scottish in theme. Description: Five-pointed star-shaped New Zealand Registered Nurse's medal, showing a red cross within a white circle, against a blue star with a red border. The initials NZRN are enamelled on a bar attached to the medal. Other: The star encloses a Red Cross as an emblem of the blood and the Cross of Christ. The white background stands for the purity expected in the life of a nurse; blue stands for honour and loyalty, and gold for charity. The Medal was designed as a symbol of service in the alleviation of suffering. Designed by Mrs Grace Neill, the appointed assistant inspector of hospitals in New Zealand in 1895.
