Essendon Farm

Original owner was James Gough who purchased 1,000 acres of land between Darfield and Greendale to form the Nesslea estate. Nesslea was farmed as sheep and cropping farm. In 1911 the neighbouring Bangor estate was subdivided and Gough purchased 500 acres which adjoined the Nesslea estate. Part of the Nesslea estate and that purchased through the Bangor sale forms the Essendon Farm which is farmed by Gough's great-greatgrandson Paul Keith Jarman and his wife Ann. In 2006 the property was awarded the NZ Century Farm and Station award to mark over 100 years of continuous ownership by one family.
