Musician, record producer, recording engineer and songwriter. Born in England, he emigrated to New Zealand with his family in 1966.
His intial employment in the music industry was as a sound engineer for Stebbings recording studio in Auckland. There he worked on albums for Hello Sailor, Th'Dudes, Golden Harvest, Patsy Riggir, Tomi Williams, and various other New Zealand artists. In the 1980s Ian Morris was a freelance producer, working at Mandrill. Marmalade, and Harlequin studios on albums, demos, and singles for Graham Brazier, Naked Spots Dance, Screaming Meemees, DD Smash, The Hulamen, Andrew Clouston, Circus Block Four, Lip Service, Tin Syndrome, Daggy and the Dickheads, The Furys, Shadowfax, and The Gurlz.
Circa mid 1970s, he became well known as a member of New Zealand band Th' Dudes. He later performed solo in the 1980s under the stage name Tex Pistol, and had hit singles with his brother Rikki Morris.
In the 1990s, Ian Morris worked mainly on advertising music, and produced some records for other acts, such as Southside of Bombay and The Warratahs.
He was married to When the Cat's Away singer Kim Willoughby from 1995.
