Lafresnaye, Noel Frederic Armand Andre de, 1783-1861

French ornithologist and collector. Lafresnaye described a number of new bird species. He accumulated a collection of over 8000 bird skins at his home. After his death the collection was purchased by American collector Henry Bryant and donated to the Boston Natural History Society. It was transferred to the Museum of Comparative Zoology in 1914. Description: Drawing of Arremon aurantiirostris, commonly called the orange-billed sparrow. Shown standing on the ground beside a bush. It has a bright orange beck, olive green plumage on the back, tail feathers and wings with a small yellow patch at the shoulder end of the wing. The head is black with a pale grey stripe extending over the top of the eye from the beck to the back of the head. The throat and underparts are pale grey with a band of black separating the two areas. The legs and eyes are brown. Other Titles - Orange-billed sparrow Inscriptions: Recto - above image - 2.
