"Once and for all!" "Sort of..." 3 October 2010

Date: 2010

From: Hubbard, James, 1949-: Digital caricatures and cartoons

Reference: DCDL-0015753

Description: Prime Minister John Key is at the beach and is building a sandcastle that represents the 'Foreshore Bill'. Behind him an enormous wave representing 'Future renegotiation' is about to engulf him but unaware, John Key confidently asserts 'Once and for all!' to Maori Party Co-leader Tariana Turia who is running down the beach with her surfboard and who replies 'Sort of...' in a non-commital way. Refers to the new bill - On 6 September 2010, the Attorney-General introduced the Marine and Coastal Area (Takutai Moana) Bill to the House of Representatives to repeal the Foreshore and Seabed Act 2004 and introduce a new framework for recognising and protecting rights in the foreshore and seabed area. The government is treading a very careful line of appeasement toward Maori and the Maori Party without offending those who objected to much of the import (or imagined import) of the original Act. Hone Harawira, typically, is playing the mavorick by not falling into line. Quantity: 1 digital cartoon(s).
