Description: Includes a collection of political cartoons from the 1940s as well as charicatures and drawings depicting various sportsmen who flourished in the 1940s and 1950s. The political cartoons refer to an electricity crisis as well as issues concerned with the Wellington City Council. In one of the Wellington cartoons the name MacAlister is mentioned. The sporting portraits feature speedway champion Percy Coleman and boxer Dave Sands, as well as wrestlers Lofty Blomfield, Earl McCready, and Bill Kuusisto. Includes a number of smaller illustrations, most of which feature gardening and its related materials. Quantity: 19 newsclippings. Description: A group of people proceeding along a road using alternatives to cars, probably because of 'carless days'. The alternatives include roller skates, a go-cart, a scooter and a horse. A superior-looking man on a modern bicycle is looking critically at an older man on an old-style cycle. The older man is defending his choice of transport and admitting that he last rode his cycle in 1936 There is also a self-portrait of the cartoonist in the bottom right corner. He is shown about to hit a softball or baseball being bowled to him.
