Gibson, Frank Desmond, 1924-1998

Jazz drummer. He first worked with Phil Campbell at the Metropole; in 1942 he entered the Navy, then after the war he was associated by Epi Shalfoon, and with radio dance bands. In 1952 he was playing at the Civic Wintergarden with "Chips" Healey. He was founder and co-leader of the "Drum Trio", popular at jazz concerts in Auckland. Father of jazz drummer Frank Harvey Gibson.

Includes images of jazz musicians and singers performing at the following New Zealand festivals: Bay of Islands Jazz Festival (1997-1998, 2000), Hamilton Traditional Jazz Festival (1992-1993), Manawatu Jazz Festival (1998-2001), National Jazz Festival (1992-1999, 2001), Rotorua Jazz Festival (1995-1996) and Whangarei Jazz Festival (1999, 2001). Also photographs of audiences, venues, band stands and festival banners. Also images related to the Huggard Trophy for Best First Year Performance Band. Includes photographs of the trophy and of it being awarded at the National Jazz Festival (1997).
