Description: Depicts two parallel lines superimposed over the word 'Doubt'. Refers to fresh claims publicised on the TV3 series '3rd Degree' that Robin Bain killed his family and then shot himself. Gun experts say a police crimescene photograph of Robin Bain's hand shows two marks on his thumb and fingers which are likely to be caused by loading the murder weapon, a .22 Winchester 490 semi-automatic rifle shortly before his death (TV3 27 June 2013). Description: Commentary from the artist: 'The latest evidence [gunpowder on Robin Bain's thumb] is surely enough reason to pardon and compensate David Bain. Or will Judith Collins thumb her nose at that, too, in the same way she thumbed her nose at Canadian Judge Binnie at the time of his independent Report.' The Canadian judge Binnie reads a letter of apology from Judith Collins and remarks 'This is so moving...(gulp)...not at all what I'd expect from a bilious tax lawyer from Auckland'. In a continuation of the claim by David Bain's supporters for compensation for possible wrongful imprisonment, on 27 June 2013, the New Zealand Police dismissed unclear marks on photographs of Robin Bain's thumb which some of the David Bain supporters claimed to have been gunpowder marks. Description: Joe Karam, supporter and advocate for David Bain, holds a rifle and says "Why were there magazine residues on Robin Bain's hands but none of his fingerprints on the murder weapon, you ask? Easy. He wore gloves to kill his family and took them off to re-load. Why do I have to think of everything?" Refers to Joe Karam presenting a second set of fingerprints taken from Robin Bain that appears to support the evidence that Robin Bain rather than David Bain was responsible for the murder of the rest of the family in 1994. THE CASE AGAINST ROBIN BAIN. "Discounting testimony and discrediting any evidence that ...

Date: 2010

From: Scott, Thomas, 1947- :[Digital cartoons published in the Dominion Post]

Reference: DCDL-0014742

Description: The cartoon shows Joe Karam the advocate for David Bain, who has been pronounced not guilty of the murder of his family, watching a television programme called 'The case against Robin Bain'. Robin Bain is the father of David Bain who died with the family but who many believe guilty of the murders. Joe Karam is indignant that the interviewee, Bryan Bruce, who is asking questions about Robin Bain, should be discounting evidence, discrediting evidence that doesn't fit, and undermining public confidence in the judicial process. He fails to consider the lengths to which he himself went to promote David Bain's case. Quantity: 1 digital cartoon(s).
