Description: Published by Whitcombe & Tombs, in circa 1911. The book includes annotations, and loose papers which were laid in to the volume, including clippings, research papers, correspondence and drafts. Many of the papers relate to Henry Stowell (Hare Hongi). Includes a welcome address to returning Maori soldiers, from World War One, 'composed and translated expressly by Hare Hongi Stowell, Wellington, 1941'. Also a letter (16 November 1936) to James Cowan, from the Auckland Tramping Club, asking him to advise on a Māori name for their new hut. This letter includes many annotations by Cowan. Also includes some whakapapa, and waiata with translations. One is an annotated typescript of a waiata tangi performed by Hon. James Carroll at Richard Seddon's funeral, 21 June, 1906. Also includes a lament for Te Puoho, with a translation (by Hare Hongi, dated 5 April 1929). It says "for J. D. Peart" of Hataitai, at the bottom of the page. Also a typescript of the waiata 'Tarakihi' or 'Song of the locust' with an arrangement and translation (probably by Stowell, but some of the page has been ripped off, so this information has been lost). Also includes a typewritten letter (19 June 1930), probably written from Hare Hongi, to James Cowan. This includes a Nga Puhi whakapapa chart.
