Poulton, Maurice Alec, 1909-1983

Commercial artist and poster designer who worked for the Railways as a cadet from 1925. He was appointed designing artist in 1938 and supervising artist in 1955. He completed artwork on bird posters related to the Forest and Bird Protection Society. The fantail poster was first in 1961 and the tui followed in 1962, and lastly the egret one was 1963.

He retired in 1955, and in his last 20 years developed a great interest in fly-fishing around the Taupo-Turangi area. He was also a landscape artist and painter, winning the Kelliher art prize.
