The first covers his childhood, youth, schooling etc in Gisborne, the beginning of his working life, joining the army and serving in Greece and Crete where he became a prisoner of war and his return to New Zealand. The second part focuses on his return to civilian life, training as a teacher and teaching in various schools including Kowhai Intermediate, rural schools, Mt Roskill Grammar School and Wellington College from which he retired in 1978.
